1 GB = 1,000 MB here. Apps change their quality automatically, and background updates and cloud photo backup can add a lot. Turn off auto-backup on mobile data if your plan is small.

FAQ
How much data do I need for a week in Japan?
It depends mostly on video. Maps, messaging and browsing for a few hours a day often stay under 1 GB for a week, while an hour of video per day can add several GB. Use the calculator with your own habits.
Does Google Maps use a lot of data?
Usually not much compared with video, but there is no official per-hour figure and it varies by app and settings. We use a rough range of 5–40 MB per hour and label it as an estimate.
Will an eSIM work on my phone?
Your phone must support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked. Check your phone's settings or your carrier before you buy a plan.
